ABOUT DISASTERPEACE (RICH VREELAND)

Disasterpeace writes music for games.

Notable projects: Fez, Bomberman Live: Battlefest, Astral Puzzle Meltdown

1. CHAMBER OF THE GODDESS

ARRANGED BY: DISASTERPEACE

SOURCE TRACKS: THE GODDESS APPEARS (LTTP)
TRIFORCE CHAMBER (LTTP)

"Chamber of the Goddess" combines the fairy fountain and triforce chambre music from Link to the Past into a mellow fusion that wouldn't be all that far removed from a 70's B-side.

ABOUT REKCAHDAM (ROGER HICKS)

A musician, hacker, game developer hybrid race known as Rekcahdam... with only one member.

Notable projects: Celestial Mechanica, rComplex

2. GIMME MY SWORD!

ARRANGED BY: REKCAHDAM

SOURCE TRACKS: SEEK THE SWORD (LA)
OPENING DEMO (LTTP)

I really loved the sword search theme in Link's Awakening, but I hated how short lived it was. You only hear it once the whole game. So I figured I'd do it justice in this rock/neo jazz/hiphop track.

ABOUT LAURA SHIGIHARA

Laura is a full-time video game composer who is developing a game in her spare time. She drinks a lot of tea, has a black belt in Shotokan, and plays Terran in StarCraft. Some say she is really a robot from the year 20XX.

Notable projects: Plants vs. Zombies, Melolune, To the Moon, Celestial Mechanica, Play for Japan: The Album

3. FUSHIGINA FOREST

ARRANGED BY: LAURA SHIGIHARA

SOURCE TRACK: FOREST (LTTP)

I've always loved how mysterious the "Forest" theme from A Link to the Past sounded, so I wanted to make sure to maintain that feel. This is a simple piano piece which mixes parts of the original music, with a few new additions. I think it kind of sounds like the shadows of trees at night when there is a full moon. If such a thing can even have a sound.

[MIRROR 1] [MIRROR 2] [MIRROR 3]

ABOUT JOSHUA MORSE

A software engineer by day and a music composer by night, Joshua has never been one to conform to sounds you're accustomed to hearing. Instead, he leaves his mark by means of a fusion of genres. He's on a mission to prove that not all jazz music is "elevator music" and not all video game music is "clicks and whistles."

Notable projects: Pocket Pirates, Hybridism album

4. LINK'S EPOCH

ARRANGED BY: JOSHUA MORSE

SOURCE TRACKS: OVERWORLD (LTTP)
PRINCESS ZELDA'S RESCUE (LTTP)

My main goal with this arrangement was to bring out the (subjective) natural flavors of the main theme. The B section always struck me with an Arabic vibe. I tried to capitalize on that by bringing out some ethnic flavors in those sections, but not in a way that would deter from the feel of the original source.

ABOUT JEFF BALL

Jeff is a gay commercial fishing violinist/composer gamer originally from Alaska. None of these things go together, and it's pretty much awesome.

Notable projects: Monkey Island 2: Special Edition, Astroman, Tiny Barbarian; violin work appears in Red Orchestra 2 and Gears of War 3

5. LABYRINTH OF DANCE FLOORS

ARRANGED BY: JEFF BALL

SOURCE TRACKS: SANCTUARY DUNGEON (LTTP)
SECRET FOUND (LTTP)

From the source material, this track really formed itself into a uniquely ethereal and uplifting track inspired by trance artists of the 90's. Propellerhead's Reason was used primarily, and a touch of live violin.

ABOUT HYPERDUCK SOUNDWORKS (CHRIS GEEHAN, DAN BYRNE-McCULLOUGH, KEVIN CARVILLE)

Three deaf ducks, three deaf ducks. See how they hum, see how they hum. Etc. Quack.

Notable projects: BiteJacker, The Blocks Cometh, Dust: An Elysian Tail, A.R.E.S: Extinction Agenda

6. HOY, SMALL FRY!

ARRANGED BY: HYPERDUCK SOUNDWORKS

SOURCE TRACKS: TITLE (WW)
ZELDA'S THEME (OOT)
KAKARIKO VILLAGE (OOT)
OCEAN (WW)

We tried to keep somewhat faithful to the original style of Wind Waker, which was the initial aim for the remix medley, with the introduction beginning at the main menu of Wind Waker, out in the sea! We threw in some elements of other pieces which we loved. I think if we hadn't have caught ourselves on, we'd still be putting pieces into it, so many to choose from! We made this with a Red5 RV10 condenser, Cubase Studio 5, and seagulls. And wind chimes! And a boomerang.

ABOUT AIR & SEA (AARON CHEROF)

I'm a Seattle-based 2009 graduate of Berklee College of Music, where I studied Electronic Production & Design. In the spring of that year, the Berklee faculty awarded me the Robert Moog Award.

Notable projects: Sound Replacement for Braid (senior thesis)

7. TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A TEMPLE OF SEASONS

ARRANGED BY: AIR & SEA

SOURCE TRACK: TEMPLE OF SEASONS (OOS)

It's a remix of the song "Temple of Seasons," from Oracle of Seasons - but that might have been a little obvious from the filename.

ABOUT C418 (DANIEL ROSENFELD)

I have been growing up with cheesy 90's pop music and eventually found some of the Aphex Twin CD's my brother had. That pretty much screwed up my musical taste into hipsterness. And that before the appearance of hipsters is a bad thing on the internet. See how hipster I am? Yes, yes. Yes... yes.

Notable projects: Minecraft

8. SKYWARD

ARRANGED BY: C418

SOURCE TRACK: BALLAD OF THE GODDESS (SS)

[MIRROR 1] [MIRROR 2] [MIRROR 3]

ABOUT BIG GIANT CIRCLES (JIMMY HINSON)

Jimmy loves to write and remix video game music. He spends way too much time playing Minecraft and enjoys a casual game of frisbee golf when not composing.

Notable projects: Mass Effect 2, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

9. THUNDERSTRUCK

ARRANGED BY: BIG GIANT CIRCLES
(feat. JEFF BALL)

SOURCE TRACKS: WINDMILL HUT (OOT)
OVERWORLD (LOZ)
LOST WOODS (OOT)

I've been on a chiptune(ish) high ever since conception and release of my album Impostor Nostalgia, and coincidentally while writing the track "Fight the Current," I noticed it bore a similar chord progression at times to the infamous Windmill Hut theme from OoT. So after coming aboard the project, I pulled up the same project file and began altering things to make it what it is. Hence, if you compare the remix to "Fight the Current" side by side, you'll easily hear the recycled parts. Jeff Ball was kind enough to offer some live violin to supercede the sampled violin I originally used, and the emotion that his performance added really upped the quality by 110% to me.

ABOUT JOSH WHELCHEL

I've been writing music for a while now, and in 2011 I decided to become a full-time freelance composer. You might also call me an indie game composer, or just a video game music specialist.

Notable projects: Scrolls, Hollow's Deep, Wind-up Knight, Ravenmark: Scourge of Estellion

10. ZELDA'S FIRST TRIP TO THE "VILLAGE"

ARRANGED BY: JOSH WHELCHEL

SOURCE TRACKS: GERUDO VALLEY (OOT)
HYRULE CASTLE (LTTP)
OVERWORLD (LOZ)

Zelda got a little carried away with the stash of bad chicken eggs. They're only slightly hallucinogenic, only slightly.

ABOUT MISFITCHRIS (CHRIS CHAPMAN)

Hailing from Connecticut, USA, MisfitChris started off playing his Casio keyboard alongside SNES games in a valiant effort to mimic his favorite video game composers. Then, in an attempt at venting his inevitable teenage angst, he picked up a guitar and started a punk band. He got his first taste of using computers to make music editing local bands with basic sound editing software.

Notable projects: Robots Love Ice Cream, RadBalls, Data Tides album

11. VILLAGE FROM YOUR PAST

ARRANGED BY: MISFITCHRIS

SOURCE TRACK: KAKARIKO VILLAGE (OOT)

"Kakariko Village" is a track that's always meant a lot to me. The version composed for Zelda: A Link to the Past brings me back to my childhood every time I hear it. The original composition has had a profound influence on me as a musician. Out of respect, I wanted to keep my version true to the original piece. "Village from Your Past" is an ode to Koji Kondo and a thank you of sorts.

ABOUT MATTIAS HÄGGSTRÖM GERDT

Mattias is a hairy Swede that smells a bit odd.

12. HEY, LISTEN

ARRANGED BY: MATTIAS HÄGGSTRÖM GERDT

SOURCE TRACKS: TEMPLE OF TIME (OOT)
WINDMILL HUT (OOT)
OVERWORLD (LOZ)

Started with some Fairlight samples and an 80's vibe, then I left it alone for a while. Got into a funk groove, then I left it alone for a while. Made a fat dubstep drop, then I left it alone for a while. Then I finished it! All made in Reason 6.

ABOUT GRYZOR87

About me, there is not much to say.

Notable projects: Hydorah, L'Abbaye des Morts, Viriax, and a couple of studio albums

14. ILIA'S ADAGIO MEETS DARK MARCH

ARRANGED BY: GRYZOR87

SOURCE TRACKS: ILIA'S THEME (TP)
DARK WORLD (LTTP)

I wanted to arrange an epic and emotional piece from Zelda's video games, and surfed the net looking for some information. I noticed of how many versions are from the main theme, and looked for some different ones. I think Ilia's theme is perfect for a "built up" introduction, and "Dark World" is perfectly suitable for the second half. I tried to choose certain orchestral elements, and mix them altogether, but always keeping in mind to be faithful with the original Zelda's feeling. Hope you like the result.

15. BALLAD OF THE WIND FISH
(KAZE NO SAKANA MIX)

ARRANGED BY: DONG

SOURCE TRACK: BALLAD OF THE WIND FISH (LA)

The original song doesn't have any lyrics, then I wrote lyrics in Japanese. I hope it will not disturb your imagination.

ABOUT CTPLR (TRACEY WONG)

My name is Tracey Wong, and I am an audio engineer by profession. During my years in college, I have developed a very strong interest in sound and have explored many territories where sound could be applied in hardware and software. Alongside that, I help musicians and clients in recording, sound checks and composing music.

Notable projects: A Thousand Lights album

16. LON LON RANCH (CTPLR MIX)

ARRANGED BY: CTPLR

SOURCE TRACK: LON LON RANCH (OOT)

It took me quite a while to choose a track that I wanted to remix. What can I say, I love Zelda tracks! So... I decided to go with this because I felt that it could be more than it was originally created. I expanded the track in a way that it takes the listener to a timeless, dreamy world... Zelda's game world.

ABOUT SOULEYE (MAGNUS PÅLSSON)

My name is Magnus. I live in Sweden and make computer game music! :) I've been into games since I first laid my hands on some Game & Watch handhelds from Nintendo. It then continued with the C64, Amiga 500, Amiga 1200, and later on PC. I love the music those machines had. The gaming music. The OLDSCHOOL gaming music! (Most of) my tunes reflect this; lo-fi samples, catchy melodies, and the retro feeling you get when listening to them.

Notable projects: VVVVVV, Extreme Road Trip

17. LINK'S FINAL BATTLE

ARRANGED BY: SOULEYE

SOURCE TRACK: FIGHT SCREEN (Z2:AOL)

This track is an exploration into the last battle that Link fights.

It starts out with Link running through the vegetation in the rain and he seeks shelter in a cave.

Little does he know that in this surreal cave a Cheetah Man is lurking about and he's hungry for Link-blood. Thus, they battle it out in a short and furious fight.

The battle rages on for a little bit, when suddenly time slows down to a dreaming halt as Link knows that the incoming sword thrust will most surely take his life, as it's aimed right at his heart. In a second of time that stretches on for a seeming eternity, Link reminisces about all the happy times with love and joy he's had in life as the experiences flash before his eyes.

But alas, name the joy that lasts forever. The Cheetah Man aborts the dreaming when he connects the killing blow and Link's life force is drained away as quickly as his heart ceases to beat.

Game over!

Enjoy! ;-)

ABOUT MATHEUS MANENTE (MATHEUS MANENTE LOPES SILVA)

Brazilian multi-instrumentalist and composer working as music teacher, freelancer and producer for many years. Nerd for even more years. Amateur astronomer, graduating in atmospheric sciences. Not a funny guy at all.

Notable projects: Hydorah Arranged Tracks album, Butchered: Splatterhouse Remixes album, IWADON: Hiroyuki Iwatsuki Tribute Album

18. ZELDA'S GRACEFUL NIGHTMARE

ARRANGED BY: MATHEUS MANENTE

SOURCE TRACKS: ZELDA'S THEME (OOT)
MAYOR'S HOUSE CONFERENCE ROOM (MM)
REQUIEM OF SPIRIT (OOT)
MAJORA'S WRATH BATTLE (MM)
GOHDAN (WW)

This is a somehow epic medley I created thinking of some of my favourite progressive rock songs with some thrash metal influences. And, of course, influenced by the Legend of Zelda's universe. I tried not to focus in any specific sound, but to create lots of different atmospheres throughout the track, which resulted in a long but very dynamic song. I wrote the whole arrangement, recorded acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitar, percussion, some keyboards, and programmed the other instruments, using Steinberg Cubase and tons of plug-ins. The whole mix and master process was digital.
